Are you amazed at how many people are getting lung cancer when they don’t even smoke? Actually, are you amazed at the amount of people that are dying of lung cancer and have never picked up a cigarette? In fact, how many times have you heard people going in for surgery to get some sort of cysts or the like removed from their lungs? I’m just saying, what about all these people walking around with respiratory problems thinking they have lots of allergies? Or people hacking all over the place? Has the whole world gone mad? Do you think we’re all just sick and get colds constantly?
Ok I guess I vented enough, maybe I should explain what my gripe of the day is. Well of course you haven’t guessed because I have so many gripes, but today’s happens to be caramel color. This chemical, which is made by “reacting sugars with ammonia and sulfites under high pressure and temperatures…resulting in the formation of “2-methylimidazole and 4-methylimidazole”, is in so many items of your everyday food, and yes I mean places where you cannot even imagine. Your child’s cereal, some of your wheat or rye bread, and let’s not even talk about candy! I often hear people say if you feel like having soda, don’t drink diet soda, and drink regular soda. Well stop it, stop it, stop it!! Is that to say you are choosing caramel color over aspartame, are you being serious? Alright let me put it in plain English. Aspartame can cause Alzheimer’s, dementia and brain tumors, but caramel coloring can cause leukemia, lung, liver and thyroid cancers (not just my opinion folks, research has shown demonstrated this click on the following links http://www.cspinet.org/new/201102161.html & http://www.cspinet.org/new/200706251.html) for more information. Did you know, for heaven’s sake, that caramel color research has shown it is linked to hypertension and high blood pressure? It is so frustrating to hear people say things like; “chemicals are in everything,” Well, they’re not. They just happen to be in most processed foods, my sweet. Oh how many times I hear someone has eaten a multigrain bagel (w/low-fat cream cheese) and considered it a healthy snack. Wow, if only you knew what was in that bagel! Yes, even Dunkin’ Donuts, everyone’s favorite hangout for coffee, is one of the leading chemical distributors in this country. Yeah I said it. Where is that concern and compassion? For all you major food companies out there that are manufacturing your foods and drinks with this carcinogen that is known to cause cancer, I have one question for you, how do you sleep at night? Well folks, until the FDA wakes up and does something, please be proactive and read the ingredients of everything you consume and for heaven’s sake, please oh please, read the ingredients of everything your children are consuming. I normally try to end on a funny note, but I am at a loss here folks, this ingredient is so serious to me I can’t even come up with a funny way to end this blog…maybe next week.
