Today I simply must put all other issues and questions aside for a moment. I have a great many questions to answer, I know that folks. Please be patient with me. Over the next several weeks I will answer all of your questions. Many of you have asked about baby carrots, fibroids, rheumatoid arthritis, cholesterol; in fact I have a very long list to get to. I have quite a lot to share on all of the subjects you have asked me about. Today however, I am putting all of those aside. I have a very important issue to discuss with all of you. This is especially relevant to young adults or the parents of young adults.
Energy drinks! Over the last several days I have met with hundreds of people. For those of you who know me well, you know that one of my most favorite things to do is to meet people and chat about health and wellness. I must be candid, I am certainly most concerned about the amount of people consuming energy drinks. In the past I have written about energy drinks and discussed with all of you the poisons they contain.
Many of you that I have met with over the last several days already realized, even before sitting down with me, that energy drinks are not a wise choice. This blog is more for the people that I have not personally spoken with over the last several days and here is why. I have met with many 19 to 25 year olds. When these young people sat with me to discuss their biometric screenings, if their blood pressure was high, the first thing I asked was whether or not they smoked, some of them had very high blood pressure for their ages. Some said yes, some said no. When they said no, the next question I asked was whether or not they drank energy drinks. Of course every single one of them was shocked that I could tell from their blood pressure that they drank energy drinks. I implore you, if you are considering opening up another energy drink, please think about what it will do to you. If you are the parent of a child who drinks energy drinks please make it taboo in your home. The chemicals and the amount of caffeine in these energy drinks are hurting our children.
For those of you who asked for my help, I know how hard it is when you’re sleepy and tired and you must continue working. Please, oh please give up the energy drinks and let’s think about better ways to get energy. Please remember coffee is not bad for you. One cup of coffee is certainly far safer than an energy drink. Carry a bag of trail mix, raw nuts, dried fruit and dark chocolate; it makes a great pick me up. I like to carry organic peanut butter in my bag.
Please remember to drink lots of water. When you are dehydrated you will find that you are more tired. Remember to keep healthy snacks nearby. Fruit and raw nuts are great go-to snacks at work. Hey listen, a shot of espresso never killed anybody, but I can’t say the same for energy drinks.
