Essiac, The Wonder Blend

5 Jul

Many believe that Mother Nature has provided cures for all that ails us.  Essiac is a four-herbed mixture that, according to thousands of testimonials, has cured everything from Stage 4 cancer to diabetes to common skin disorders.

In 1922, Canadian nurse Rene Caisse learned about an herbal remedy from a patient who had acquired it from an Indian medicine man. It may sound far fetched, but it is believed that Essiac cured Caisse’s patient of cancer. Caisse then tried the natural remedy on her family and it supposedly cured her aunt of stomach cancer and her mother of liver cancer.  Both relatives were given only months to live.  They lived for more than 18 years after ingesting the medicine man’s concoction.

After using her family members as guinea pigs Caisse reduced and perfected the medicine man’s formula into four precious ingredients.

Burdock – This root is very high in natural iron, therefore, it is easily assimilated into the body.  Within its seeds lies potent oil that is eliminated through the sweat glands, clearing the skin by removing toxins from the body.  This precious root is a liver cleanser and once you cleanse the liver the filtered blood boosts the immune system and pretty much fixes whatever needs fixing.

Sheep Sorrel – This herb should be used whole, including the root.  It has a substance in it called aloe emodin that is believed to regress and reduce tumors.  There are many antioxidants in this root, and it is a diuretic.

Slippery Elm – The inside of the bark of the slippery elm tree contains properties that fight cancer in addition to reducing inflammation.

Turkey Rhubarb Root – A diuretic, this root is antibacterial and an anti-inflammatory that has been show to fight tumors in addition to relieve constipation.  Most herbalists believe that 90 percent of all illnesses result from an unclean colon. So it makes sense that if the toxins are released out of the body there is less of a chance for disease to occur.

Rene Caisse opened up a free cancer clinic and devoted 50 years of her life to treating thousands of people with Essiac (which is her named spelled backwards).  Unfortunately, she was forced to work almost underground, often in hiding, because the Canadian government decided to try to shut her down.

Supporters gathered more than 55,000 signatures on petitions to allow her to operate her clinic openly, but this inexpensive herbal treatment was cutting into the lucrative profits that surgery, chemotherapy and radiation bring. Legislation to allow Caisse to practice medicine and treat cancer patients did not pass, falling short by only three votes.

Caisse detailed her struggle against her country’s powerful healthcare industry and government detractors in a book titled “I Was Canada’s Cancer Nurse.”

Mary McPhersons, Caisse’s best friend, was the only person who was allowed to help her make the Essiac tea.  McPherson revealed the respected formula to Dr. Gary Glum, who released the formula free of charge to anyone who mailed him a request for it.  Glum told Caisse’s story of her fight to make Essiac an official cancer treatment in his book, “Calling of an Angel.”

In 1994 the Essiac formula and recipe was officially entered into the public domain with the recording of McPherson’s affidavit.
